Saving Money at Walt Disney World!

Walt Disney World is not cheap, no matter how you cut it. However, Walt Disney World doesn’t have to break the bank! Disney knows that everyone is different and everyone’s vacation is different. One of the best options Disney offers is their Value Resorts. The Value Resorts consist of 4 resorts on Disney property that start at about $79 per night and go up to about $129 per night, depending on what season you will be traveling in. These resorts are bright and colorful, have great theming, great swimming pools, arcades, food courts and a great shop! The best thing about them (besides the price) is you get to take advantage of all of the great Disney benefits such as Extra Magic Hours (enter the parks up to one hour early or stay up to three hours later on selected days), Disney transportation to/from the theme parks, complimentary airport transportation on Disney’s Magical Express, guaranteed entry into theme parks (even on maximum capacity days) and the wonderful Disney customer service that you would expect!
Disney also offers various options for tickets with their Magic Your Way package. You can choose from a base ticket, which allows you access to one theme park per day. Park Hoppers cost an additional $54 (give or take) per person for the entire length of stay. With a Park Hopper, you can “hop” from park to park throughout any one day. You can also add on the Waterparks, Fun and More option for another $54 per person for the entire length of stay. With this option, you gain entry into DisneyQuest, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach for a specified number of visits, depending on the number of days on your ticket. All these options allow you to choose exactly what you need and save money on those you don’t!
Other ways to save money is on dining!  Dining plans can be added onto your Magic Your Way package. Disney offers a Quick-Service Dining Plan which gives each member of your party 2 snacks per day, 2 quick-service meals per day and a resort refillable mug, good for free soda and iced tea refills at your resort. You are also able to take your own water, juice, snacks, etc. into the parks (just no coolers). Remember you can always fill up your own water bottles, too, in order to save. All restaurants offer water as a beverage, too, in place of soda. This can save up to $3 per person per meal or snack! There is also a Basic Disney Dining Plan, which allows each person one snack, one counter service and one table service meal per person per day. With this plan, you are able to indulge at the table service restaurants that Disney has to offer. This can be a cost-effective way to attend character meals! On our last trip, we did three character meals, alone! One character meal will typically be around $100+ for a family of 4! The Disney Dining Plan lets you go to as many character meals that are on your ticket!
Traveling during off-peak seasons will also save you money. Some less expensive months to travel are January, early-February, September-mid-November and the week after Thanksgiving through Christmas week. Remember that if kids are out of school, Disney will be more crowded and more expensive.
As far as souvenirs, there are ways to save there, too! Some great momentos from your trip are the free customized maps available at You can also save your Key to the World cards, park maps and schedules, and more! Disney employees love to give free stickers to children (and some adults), too. Before you go, look on-line or at a dollar stores for glow sticks (a favorite during nighttime parades), Disney T-shirts, stuffed animals and more! Bring those with you, and give those to your children as they get to Walt Disney World. This way, the kids won’t be so apt to want to buy everything they see in the parks (and they will see a lot).
